How it works
From the guest’s question to the whole region.
How Lykt measures what AI recommends to your guests, for one place and for a whole region, and how that turns into three things you do every month. Eight short chapters, in order.
01 · The answer
The guest asks AI. The answer recommends some and not others.
Before booking, people ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity where to stay and what to do. The answer recommends some places by name and rests on the sources the engine has read. If your place isn’t there, it isn’t part of the guest’s choice.
What the answer is made of
- Who is recommended
- The places and businesses the answer recommends by name, and the ones it leaves out.
- The sources
- The pages the engine read: the business’s own site, the destination company, booking sites and blogs.
- The language and the market
- Guests ask in their own language, and the answer can differ in Germany from the Netherlands.
02 · The index
One fixed measurement, region by region. The main figure is free.
The AI index asks the same fixed set of questions for every region and market. The main figure is the local share: of everything AI recommends for a region, the share located in the region itself. That figure, the map and the method become public and free, planned from January 2027. The depth behind the figure is a separate product for destination companies.
Free and paid
Free shows where you stand. Paid shows why and what you can do about it.
Public and free
- The local share per region, with interval and comparison group
- The map of the regions
- The method and the corrections
Paid depth, in Lykt
- For destination companies: the region in depth, with the businesses, the sights without a local provider, the questions and sources behind the figure, and reports you can share
- For businesses and agencies: your own index figures and your own questions, in your plan
- Short excerpts from the AI answers, with engine and date, at most three per question
Why the destination company sees the most
A business sees where it stands itself. The destination company sees the whole region, and the gap between the sight AI recommends and the local business next to it. AI recommends the waterfall. It doesn’t recommend the café by the waterfall.

03 · Three ways
One index, three ways to use it.
Lykt is built for the tourism business, the agency that follows several clients, and the destination company that sees the whole region. All three build on the same index. The difference is how close you zoom in.
- One business Tourism businesses
- A group of businesses Agencies
- The whole region Destination companies
-
Tourism businesses
Hotels, stays and experiences
- The question you ask
- Are we recommended when guests ask AI, and what do we do if we are not?
- Paid depth
- Your own questions in the markets you pick, the Authority map and three things to do each month.
- Who sets up access
- You start with the free AI Check and pick a plan. On Vekst we set up and pick the three things for you.
- Price
- From 990 NOK/month ex. VAT
- Built and not built
- Built: measurement, the map and three things a month. Not yet: sharing with the destination company opens once the consent terms and the data processing agreement are ready.
-
Agencies
Follow every client from one login
- The question you ask
- How do we follow every client in AI answers without one tool per client?
- Paid depth
- Its own questions, map and three things for each client, in one login.
- Who sets up access
- We set up access and each client for you. Start with a free AI Check per client if you like.
- Price
- The plan per client, from 990 NOK/month ex. VAT. No agency fee.
- Built and not built
- Built: each client on its own, in one login where you switch between them. Not yet: an agency overview across clients, your own brand on reports, adding clients yourselves, sharing with the destination company.
-
Destination companies
The whole region in one workspace
- The question you ask
- Which local businesses do travellers hear about when they ask AI about our region?
- Paid depth
- The index in depth for the region, your own questions every month and a member view.
- Who sets up access
- We set up the workspace and the login in the pilot.
- Price
- Pilot, price agreed
- Built and not built
- In pilot now: the workspace for the region. Not yet: a list price, set after the pilots, and sharing from the businesses.
Chapters 04 to 07 show what a business gets in Lykt, with one example: a place to stay by the Sognefjord. The agency gets the same for each client. The destination company has its own workspace for the region.
04 · The questions
We ask the questions guests actually ask.
We build 15 to 30 questions for your place, by plan, organised by five pillars. Each question is asked in the language of each market you pick, across 3 to 5 AI engines, and each answer is stored with who was mentioned and which sources the engine read.
-
“Wo kann man mit Kindern am Fjord in Westnorwegen übernachten?”
Where can we stay with kids by a fjord in western Norway?
-
“Was kann man mit Kindern im Sommer am Sognefjord unternehmen?”
What can we do with kids by the Sognefjord in summer?
-
“Welches familienfreundliche Hotel am Fjord könnt ihr empfehlen?”
Which family-friendly hotel by the fjord would you recommend?
The same questions in Dutch, English and the other markets you’ve chosen.
The five pillars
- Place
- Where the guest wants to be. In the example: the Sognefjord.
- Season
- When the guest comes. In the example: July.
- Experience
- What the guest wants to do. In the example: fjord with kids.
- Guest
- Who is travelling. In the example: family.
- Market
- Where the guest comes from, and the language the question is asked in. In the example: German.
The engines and the markets
ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot. How many are measured is set per plan in the specification further down.
Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, the USA, Sweden and Denmark, and other markets you choose. Each market gets the questions in its own language.
05 · The map
How to read an Authority map.
This is an example for a place to stay by the Sognefjord, seen from the German market, with example figures. The rows are the pillars, the columns are the five engines. Read it down, not across: the pillars tell you where the work is.
Shared answer: mentioned together with others, or only in some of the answers.
Source: Lykt, example. Example figures, not measurements.
- You’re mentioned
- The engine mentions you by name in the answer.
- Shared answer
- You’re mentioned together with others, or only in some of the answers.
- Not mentioned
- The engine recommends someone else.
What you see here
- Place, the Sognefjord: mentioned in three of five engines. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot mention you, and there your own site makes up 40 to 50 percent of the source mix. Gemini gives a shared answer, and Google AIO reads only the destination company and a booking site.
- Season, July: not mentioned in four of five. Only ChatGPT gives a shared answer. The destination company is in the source mix in all five cells. This is a typical cheap cell: there simply isn’t a page that answers what to do here in July.
- Experience, fjord with kids: mentioned in two of five. ChatGPT and Gemini mention you, Perplexity and Copilot give a shared answer, and Google AIO doesn’t mention you.
- Guest, family: not mentioned in four of five. Only Google AIO gives a shared answer. A booking site is in the source mix in four of the five cells. Here it costs you commission every time.
- Market, German: mentioned only in Perplexity. ChatGPT gives a shared answer, and in the other three, booking sites fill the spot, in two of them together with a travel blog. Here you’re up against the booking sites, and it’s the cell that takes the longest to move.
- The strip in each cell is the source mix. It tells you who you’re competing with for the spot: your own site, the destination company, a booking site or a blog. That decides which lane the task goes into.
No overall score, no gauge. A number gives you no next step. A cell where you’re not mentioned does.
06 · Three things
You do three things, never more.
The map shows which cells are cheapest to win. They become three tasks a month, ideally one per lane: on Basis and Pro you pick them, on Vekst and Program we do. Each lane is a type of source AI takes the answer from, and you need to be in all three.
- Update your listing with Visit Sognefjord in German: family rooms, swimming spot, summer prices.
- Publish “Mit Kindern am Fjord” in German, covering what guests actually ask about.
- Ask to be included on the destination company’s page about family holidays by the fjord.
-
Foundation
The facts AI has to find: your Google profile, your listing with the destination company, booking sites, the same opening hours and address everywhere.
- You
- Follow the checklist
- We, on Vekst and Program
- Check and alert you (planned)
-
Own pages
Season guides, honest “best of” lists, guest types and routes, in the markets your guests come from. The source of facts the others draw on.
- You
- Approve and paste in
- We, on Vekst and Program
- Write the draft, and publish it on Program
-
Placement
Into the destination company’s articles, bloggers’ lists and specialist agencies’ pages. The sources AI trusts.
- You
- Send the request
- We, on Vekst and Program
- Write it
07 · The month
This is how a month goes.
The rhythm is the same every month, and it’s short on purpose. It’s easier to do three things twelve times than thirty things once.
- All the questions are asked again, across the same engines and markets, every 30, 14 or 7 days, by plan. The answers are stored with their sources, so you can go back and see what they actually said.
- The map updates, and the cells that have changed since last time are marked. Then you see whether the tasks you did moved anything.
- The map shows the cells that are cheapest to win, and three of them become tasks, ideally one per lane, with what’s needed: a page, a listing text or an email.
- On Basis and Pro you write and publish yourself, on Pro with templates. On Vekst we write the drafts, and on Program we publish after your approval. The next measurement shows whether the cell moved.
08 · Sharing
Where the business and the destination company meet.
Once sharing opens, a business can share its Lykt data with the destination company that covers its municipality. The destination company then sees the business in the member view. Sharing is off until the business itself turns it on.
Who decides on sharing
- Tourism businesses
- You choose whether to share your data with your destination company, and what.
- Agencies
- Sharing with the destination company is set per client, by the owner or an admin, and every change is logged.
- Destination companies
- Sees a business’s own data only when that business shares.
The rules
- The business chooses the scope itself and can withdraw sharing at any time.
- All sharing is logged.
- Figures across businesses show only when at least five share.
- Shared data never changes the figures, the groups or who is named in the index.
not yet Sharing with the destination company opens once the consent terms and the data processing agreement are ready.

Questions
Three questions about the method.
Is this SEO?
No. Google ranks pages in a list. AI reads a couple of sources it trusts and writes one answer with a few names in it. Ranking high on Google doesn’t mean you get mentioned.
Which AI engines and markets do you measure?
ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot. Basis measures three of them, Pro, Vekst and Program all five. Markets: Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, the USA, Sweden, Denmark, and the ones you pick yourself, in the guest’s language.
How soon will I see something?
The first map comes after the first measurement. We expect foundation tasks (Google profile, listings) often show up after two to four weeks, and own pages and placements after two to four months. That’s our estimate, not measured figures. We tell you when a cell doesn’t move, and why.
